When a repair won’t hold, we replace the valve clean.

Some valves are too old, too corroded, or too obsolete to repair. We replace them properly and to code, with as little disruption to your wall as the job allows.

Shower valve replacement rough-in by Shoreline Plumbing in Honolulu, HI

For the valve a rebuild can’t save

Some valves are past the point of a rebuild.

There’s a point where repairing a shower valve stops making sense. The model is discontinued and parts no longer exist. The body is corroded enough that a new cartridge won’t seal against it. Or it’s an old two-handle setup with no anti-scald protection that should be brought up to current code. When you’re there, replacing the valve is the honest answer, and we do it clean.

Replacing a valve means getting access to the valve body behind the wall, which usually involves opening a small section of tile or wall to reach it. We keep that opening as small as the job allows, swap in the new valve set at the right depth and plumbed correctly, pressure-test it, and close it back up. Where the old valve and the new one don’t line up, we make the supply connections work without tearing up more wall than necessary.

We’ll talk through the new valve with you before we start, a single-handle pressure-balance valve, a thermostatic valve that holds an exact temperature, or a setup that supports a second showerhead. Replacing the valve is the right moment to upgrade what the shower can do, since the wall’s already open. As always, you get the price before any work begins.

What’s included

What a shower valve replacement covers.

  • Removal of the failed valve. We take out the old, corroded, or obsolete valve body cleanly, with minimal opening of the wall.
  • New valve set to code. A modern pressure-balance or thermostatic valve installed at the correct depth and plumbed properly.
  • Anti-scald protection added. Old two-handle valves with no scald protection brought up to current code with a balancing valve.
  • Minimal wall opening. We keep the access opening as small as the job allows so there’s less to repair afterward.
  • Pressure-tested before close-up. Every replacement is tested before the wall goes back, so no leak hides behind the tile.
  • Optional upgrades. While the wall’s open, we can set the valve up for a second head, a handheld, or body sprays.

When to call us

It’s time to replace the valve when:

  • The valve model is discontinued and parts are gone
  • The valve body is corroded past sealing
  • You have an old two-handle valve with no scald protection
  • A rebuild was tried and the leak came back
  • The handle broke off or the valve seized
  • You’re upgrading the shower and want a modern valve

If a repair didn’t hold or there’s simply no part left to fit, replacing the valve is the lasting fix. We’ll confirm that’s the case before recommending it.

The way we work

We replace it once, and we replace it right.

Opening a wall to swap a valve is only worth it if the new one is set correctly and tested before it’s closed back up. We do both, and we give you the price before we start. No surprises, no second trip into the same wall.

“Our shower valve was an old model nobody made parts for anymore. Shoreline replaced it with minimal mess, tested it, and the price matched the quote. Clean, professional work.”

Oahu specifics

Obsolete valves in older Oahu homes are common.

Older homes and condos across Oahu are full of shower valves from decades back, models that have been discontinued so long there’s no cartridge or seal kit left to fit them. When one of those fails, replacement is the only real option, and it’s a job we handle regularly. We bring in a current valve, make the supply connections work with whatever’s behind the wall, and bring the whole thing up to today’s code while we’re in there.

Condo replacements add the step of coordinating a water shutoff with the building, especially in older stacks. We’re used to working within those constraints and keeping the opening small, since condo walls and tile are no fun to repair twice. Whether it’s a single-family home or a high-rise unit, the goal is the same, get the old valve out, the new one in right, tested, and closed up clean.

What working with us looks like

Straightforward, start to finish.

The first thing we do on any shower valve replacement job is figure out what’s actually going on. We look at the real problem instead of guessing, and we explain what we find in plain language, no jargon, no scare tactics. You’ll know what’s wrong and what your options are before anything else happens.

Then you get a clear price. The number we quote is the number you pay, which is the whole reason John started Shoreline back in 2019 after watching another company do it the wrong way. A licensed plumber does the work, keeps you posted along the way, and cleans up the area before leaving. We finish by checking that everything runs the way it should.

None of that changes with the size of the job. A small shower valve replacement call and a big one get the same honest diagnosis, the same clear price, and the same crew that takes pride in the work and leaves your place clean. We would rather do it right and earn the next call than rush it and lose your trust, because the reviews our customers leave are the only advertising we really count on.

That approach is why so many of our customers call us back and ask for our crew by name. If you’ve got a shower valve replacement question or you’re ready to get on the schedule, reach out through our contact page or call (808) 445-3585. We answer, and we’ll give you a straight answer.

  • Rated 4.9 across 377+ jobs. Real reviews from real Honolulu homeowners, on Google, Yelp, and Angi.

It’s a simple promise: tell you the truth, charge what we said, and do the work right the first time. That’s the standard John set when he founded Shoreline, and it’s the standard every plumber on the crew works to on every job, big or small, residential or commercial. Questions, answered straight

Frequently asked questions

How do you know if I need a replacement instead of a repair?

If the valve is discontinued with no parts available, corroded past sealing, or a repair already failed, replacement is the lasting fix. We diagnose it first and only recommend replacing when a rebuild genuinely won’t hold.

Do you have to tear up my tile?

We open the smallest section we can to reach the valve body, usually a limited area of wall or tile. We keep it minimal so there’s less to repair afterward, and we’ll tell you what access the job needs up front.

Can you upgrade to a better valve while you’re at it?

Yes. Since the wall’s already open, it’s the right time to put in a thermostatic valve, add anti-scald protection, or set up for a second showerhead or body sprays. We’ll go over the options before starting.

Will the new valve meet current code?

Yes. We replace old, unprotected valves with modern pressure-balancing or thermostatic valves that meet current anti-scald code, so the temperature stays safe and steady.

How long does a replacement take?

Most replacements are handled in a single visit once we have access to the valve. If your shower is tiled and the trim needs to be coordinated, we’ll lay out the timing with you.

Are you licensed?

Yes, Hawaii plumbing contractor license #37423. Replacements are done to code, pressure-tested, and we stand behind the work.
