Slab homes flood sideways.
Most housing across Kapolei sits on a concrete slab. No crawlspace, no basement, nowhere for water to drain away to. When a braided supply line under a sink lets go, or a hose behind the washer splits, the water has exactly one direction to travel: out across your floor. It reaches carpet, baseboard, and the kick under your cabinets long before a bucket and towels catch up.
The other big one is the garage water heater. Tanks fail from the bottom, quietly, and a garage floor slopes toward the door if you are lucky and toward the living room if you are not. Rust-colored water at the base of the tank, a damp ring on the concrete, or a heater past the ten-year mark are all reasons to call before it opens up on its own.

How long does it take you to reach Kapolei?
It depends on the H-1. Off peak we move west quickly. In the afternoon town-to-Kapolei crawl it takes longer, and we will tell you a real number on the phone instead of a hopeful one. Whatever that number is, we also coach you through shutting the water off so the clock stops mattering as much.
Where is the main shutoff in a Villages of Kapolei house?
Usually at the meter box near the sidewalk or the front planting strip, with a green or black lid. Lift the lid, look for the valve on the house side of the meter, and turn it clockwise until it stops. Some homes also have a hose-bib-height valve on the exterior wall near the garage.
What counts as a real emergency and what can wait until morning?
Water you cannot stop, sewage backing up a drain, no water to the whole house, or a water heater dumping onto a garage floor are all right now. A slow drip into a bucket, one slow drain, or a running toilet you can shut at the angle stop can generally hold until morning without costing you more.
